Setting WebDAV preferences You should set up both global and site-specific WebDAV preferences before attempting to use Adobe GoLive's WebDAV functionality. This will simplify connecting to a WebDAV server as required later in this chapter. Global preferences let you specify a list of preferred WebDAV servers along with each server's address, the user name and password you use to access the server, and type of authorization required, if any, for server access. Site-specific preferences let you set these same server access parameters for a single site. In addition, you can turn on a Workgroup Support option that enhances WebDAV's own built-in file locking mechanism. ![]() To add a WebDAV server to the global preferences server list: 1 Select Edit > Preferences, expand the Network icon in the left pane, and click the WebDAV icon. 2 Click New in the right pane. 3 Type the WebDAV address of the server in the Address text box. 4 Press Tab and enter the username. 5 Press Tab and enter the password, if one is required. Whether a password is required or not depends on the WebDAV server access privileges assigned by the WebDAV administrator. If a password is required, choose Basic from the Authorization pop-up menu. If no password is required, choose None. 6 Repeat steps 1 to 5 to add more WebDAV servers. 7 When you are finished entering WebDAV servers, click OK. ![]() To set up WebDAV access for a specific site: 1 With a site open, click the Settings button in the Site toolbar, or choose Site > Settings. 2 Click the FTP & WebDAV server icon in the left pane. 3 Type the WebDAV address of the server. Clicking the Save option next to the Password text box saves you from having to enter your password every time you want to access the WebDAV server. This option, however, does pose a security risk. Note: If no authorization is required, it is absolutely essential to use unique user names or Adobe GoLive's locking mechanism cannot function properly. Without password authorization, one user can easily dodge a lock set by another user simply by using the same name. 6 Click OK to confirm your entries. To enable Workgroup Support for a site: 1 Choose Site > Settings, and click the FTP & WebDAV server icon in the left pane. 2 Enter the address, username, and password (if required) of the WebDAV server in the right pane. 3 Check the Enable Workgroup Support check box at the bottom of the WebDAV settings. (The option is disabled by default.) 4 Click OK. For detailed information on using Adobe GoLive's Workgroup Support feature, see Enhancing WebDAV with Workgroup Support. Note: Before enabling Workgroup Support for a site, be sure to perform a synchronization. See Synchronizing files on a WebDAV server. To disable Workgroup Support for a site: 1 Choose Site > Settings, and click the FTP & WebDAV server icon in the left pane. 2 Deselect the Enable Workgroup Support check box at the bottom of the WebDAV settings. 3 Click OK.
